THE MOST DRAMATIC TRAIN RIDE IN THE HEMISPHERE

Get ready to discover the majestic Sierra Tarahumara: over 60 thousand square km of mountains, canyons, ravines, rivers and impressive waterfalls are part of the astounding landscape which can be run through in a comfortable and safe way, thanks to the Ferrocarril Chihuahua Pacifico (Chepe), one of the world’s most important engineering feats; 656 km of tracks, 86 tunnels and 37 bridges make up the trip from the city of Chihuahua to Los Mochis, in the state of Sinaloa.

Of course, reaching strategic points, such as Creel or Divisadero Station, give us the opportunity to go deeper into the sierra and create our own adventure, as large as we like it. Part of this adventure are the untiring inhabitants of the Sierra: the Tarahumara or Raramuri ethnic group, who throughout centuries have maintained their primitive religious and social customs; their small communities are like a trip back in time and represent the opportunity to understand a friendly point of view about nature.

The route for an unforgettable trip can begin in several places, the end result will always be wonderful. You can start at the large door: El Paso/Ciudad Juarez and continue your trip choosing from multiple options:

Chihuahua, the state capital, where progress, tradition, history and modernity have learned to live together.

Casas Grandes, city located on the northwestern part of the state, where the Paquime culture flourished over 1,500 years ago, and whose vestiges remain in this archaeological area.

Another good beginning is through the state of Sonora; you enter Mexico via Nogales, Az/Nogales, Mex and enter the Sierra through the town of Madera, where you will be surprised to find several archaeological sites set amongst the cliffs and rock vertical walls.

The trip can continue until you reach the sea, where you can enjoy some of the Pacific Ocean’s beaches, cross the Sea of Cortez and then travel throughout the Baja California peninsula.
