Day 2-3 Bahia Kino
Caravan across the border and on to Bahia Kino, relaxing, exploring, beachcombing
and other optional activities abound. Hot dog roast and margarita get aquaninted
party on the beach. Bring your favorite hot dog toppings..
Day 4-5 Guaymas
Enjoy the Mexican port ambience, spectacular sun sets and the beautiful Mar
de Cortez. We will do a city tour including a modern Mexico shopping center
and a visit to a Pearl Farm. Dinner party in a local restaurant
.
Day 6-7 Los Alamos
This morning we will Caravan to the beautiful and quaint colonial town of
Alamos. Alamos has been declared a national historic monument, with its beautifully
restored Spanish colonial architecture with Moorish influence.
Touring Alamos
You have the opportunity today to participate in a walking tour to see some
of the restored majestic mansions that dot this community. We will also visit
local pottery artisans and tour the Aduana. Tonight's agenda includes evening
margarita's and dinner.
Day 8 El Fuerte
The colonial town of EL Fuerte has retained its old Mexican atmosphere. After
we get there we will tour its, colonial plaza, the cobblestone streets, old
houses and patios filled with tropical foliage, wrought-iron windows and doors
and it's ancient church.. This evening we will have a private dinner and entertainment..
Day 9-10 Copper Canyon- Creel...
Today we experience the most spectacular portion of the railroad. You will
want to keep your cameras and binoculars handy during our ascent up the Sierra
Madre Mountains. As we continue our way through dramatic changes in landscape,
ecosystems and climate we will cross the highest bridge spanning the Rio Chinipas
at 355 feet above the river, followed by the longest bridge above the Rio
Fuerte at 1,637 feet in length Around the Temoris train station is an amazing
feat of engineering as the train winds its way into the valley. At the top
you can view three levels of railroad and high on the cliff is an impressive
commemorative marker built for the dedication of the railroad by President
Lopez Mateos on November 24, 1961. This marker is constructed of rails with
letters 2 feet high. We will arrive Creel in mid-afternoon and transfer to
our wood cabin Villa Mexicana hotel for two nights..
Creel is considered the gateway for the Tarahumara Native country and it serves as the center of all Raramuri, as they call themselves, administration. The Mission Store on the main plaza of town is a gathering and trading place for this community of natives. In Creel you will be introduced to the handicrafts fashioned by these people, including dolls, violins and baskets. This working town was also once the heart of the lumber-producing area in this part of Mexico. We have the opportunity here in Creel to tour an inhabited cave of the Tarahumara, visit the Jesuit Mission and view Arareco Lake, all of which warrant having a camera handy. Tonight we will gather together to enjoy local entertainment, margarita's and dinner in an area Restaurant.
Day 11 Divisadero
During the one and a half hours we spend in motion on the train today we will
be on a stretch of train tracks that loop over themselves referred to as "el
Lazo", be sure to have your camera ready for this amazing feat of engineering.
Shortly thereafter we will arrive at Divisadero, or "the lookout point"
where not only the view into the canyon but the altitude as well, will take
your breath away. We get to leisurely participate in a walking tour along
the canyon rim during the most ideal lighting for photography the day has
to offer. As the day turns to dusk we will be enjoying sunset while we have
our dinner and fiesta at our hotel Mansion Tarahumara walking distance from
the rim..
Day 12 El Fuerte..
After breakfast included we will have time for optional hiking or relaxing
and trading with the Tarahumara Indians. After lunch in the hotel included
we will return on the train and view all the spectacular scenery that we might
have missed on the way back. Transfer to our campground.
Day 13-14 Guasave.
As we head south along the coast we will spend two days in the quaint sea
port of Guasave, a paradise for shell collectors and birdwatchers. Our full
hookup RV park is located next to the Sea of Cortez for you to enjoy beautiful
sunsets and extraordinary views of the ocean. We will do a full d ay excursion
to 2 of the nearby islands on local Panga fishing boats (skiffs), snacks,
drinks and lunch is included..
Day 15-19 Mazatlan D
From Guasave we will travel to Mexico's Riviera Resort City of Mazatlan where
we will spend 5 nights where we will experience almost perfect weather, enjoy
fabulous dining, beautiful beaches, great shopping and gala nightlife.
While in Mazatlan we will do a city tour, visit a Tequila Rancho, enjoy evening
margarita parties hosted by our staff. And attend the famous Mexican fiesta
dinner. You don't want to miss our special tour to Copala on the foothills
of the Sierra Madre where you will mingle with the natives and see hand carved
furniture being made, beautiful pottery and glazed floor tile
If you are a fishing enthusiast, our Wagonmaster will arrange a fishing trip
for those that want to go for some of the worlds best marlin, sailfish and
mahi-mahi fishing.
Day 20 Los Mochis
As we travel north to Los Mochis (Place of the Turtles) you will be seeing
one of the most fertile agricultural areas of Mexico. The town itself has
a brief history, founded in 1903 by an American Benjamin Johnston, who established
sugarcane plantations and a sugar factory here. Your Wagonmaster will organize
a trip to down town Mochis for dinner at the Marinero and shopping at the
Ley store..
Day 21-22 San .Carlos
The drive up the Pacific coast is spectacular and scenic. Our destination
of San Carlos offers sightseeing, swimming and naturally relaxing all of which
are available at our beautiful RV park overlooking the Sea of Cortez. The
second night will be our Farewell Dinner Party and recognitions by our Wagonmaster..
Day 23 Nogales
Caravan back across the border to Nogales and on to Tucson...
